Hi Hilary, is this just for the women of BRBC or can friends from other churches go too?

Don’t forget to bring your checkbooks today! It’s the last day to sign up for the retreat. This year’s retreat is going to be a great chance to get away, fellowship, and rest. We hope you’ll come!

Bethany Johns

Hilary, I would like to sign up if there is still room. I can bring the registration form and money tomorrow. I will need a single room.

Jan Murphy

We are so happy you can come, Bethany! And thank you to Josh for watching the other kids! :-)

As an encouragement to others who are still on the fence about attending I wanted to share what I know of White Sulphur Springs and our speaker Kim Hyland

I first met Kim Hyland four years ago at the women’s retreat she is founder of, Winsome Retreat. Winsome was the realization of a dream to create a space to encourage and equip women. She spoke at 3 of the sessions. Winsome takes place at White Sulphur Springs, the same place our retreat is going to take place. I was so encouraged at that retreat which came at a time in my life when I was questioning my purpose and direction.  The theme that year was discovering your God Sized Dream. Kim brought together speakers from all over who spoke about what it looked like to let God lead you into what your purpose was and how to discover your “dreams”.

Kim spoke that year, and continues to speak, from a place of humility and vulnerability about how God led her from a place of relying on her own works and efforts to create the “perfect” Christian persona in her personal life and in the outward appearance of her family to a place of relying fully on God. God brought her low and turned her heart more fully towards him to give her a renewed sense of hope in the gospel of grace. Now she shares this message of hope whenever she can.

She speaks winsomely and honestly about the Christian women face and gives strategies and suggestions for how to live more fully in the grace that is available through Christ.  The annual Winsome Retreat celebrates the themes of authenticity, diversity and truth and Kim embodies these qualities as well in her life in her speaking and now in her book “An Imperfect Woman, Letting Go of the Need to Have it All Together” from the back of her book:

Kim Hyland is a writer, a speaker, and the founder and host of Winsome, and annual retreat for women that celebrates authenticity, diversity and truth. She also speaks at national retreats and conferences, where she encourages women by sharing her imperfect path and God’s perfect plans. Originally from the DC metro area, she now lives with her family on a mountain overlooking the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia.  Her website is
I can’t wait to go to the BRBC retreat to spend some undivided time with all you ladies!

Martha Mason

You are welcome!  I know she will be a blessing to all who hear her. I can’t wait for the retreat!

Jan Murphy

Thanks, Martha! This was such an encouragement! Thank you for writing it. I am excited for the retreat as well. I am praying God will use this weekend to draw us all more closely to Him and each other. Can’t wait!
